Forty years after fleeing Egypt, while tending sheep, Moses has a pivotal encounter with God. The "Angel of the Lord" speaks to him from a burning bush! From this story we gain rich insights into the character of God. He hears the cries of His people and responds to rescue them. Sometimes He waits until we are old, after many years of refining, before revealing our greatest mission.  Early Christian writers saw the Son of God in this encounter and others in the Old Testament where men "saw the Lord." Also, Jesus used this passage to confound His enemies and teach on the resurrection. We close by noting the great promise God provided to Moses in facing the trials ahead: the Lord would be with him.
