Introduction to the Series; Slaves in Egypt (Exodus 1)

We begin this new series on the Exodus journey by reviewing the reasons why this material is so important for Christians today. Jesus and the apostles drew critical lessons for Christians from these Scriptures. They include significant prophecies about the coming of Jesus, and foreshadowings of almost every element of the church and Christian life. We consider Stephen’s overview of the 120-year life and ministry of Moses in Acts 7, then review how the Jews ended up as slaves in Egypt. In the first chapter of Exodus we see the oppression the Jews faced at the hand of Pharaoh, and are inspired by two unlikely heroines: Hebrew midwives who feared God more than a murderous king.
