There are few more graphic scenes in Scripture than God punishing Korah and his cohort for their rebellion. Sadly, this story has been used by some to advance a controlling agenda. Yet God wanted His people to remember this important lesson, referred to by Jude over a thousand years later to warn the New Testament church. We learn that wicked men will rise up within the church to lead Christians astray. They may look good outwardly and make spiritually sounding arguments, but they have bad motives and oppose the original faith handed down by the apostles. May this story prepare us to address sin in the church as God has commanded.
