This passage begins with the perplexing statement: "You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come..." This is the first place in Scripture where the word "antichrist" appears, and it is only found in 1 John and 2 John. How did John’s readers already know that the Antichrist is coming? Who or what is the Antichrist? How does this relate to Satan? And what does John mean when he says that "many antichrists have come"? In this lesson we explore all these questions, consider insights from early Christian writers, and look at the implications of this concept for us today.
